South Inylchek is the largest glacier in the Tien Shan mountains and the second largest mountain glacier in the CIS. The length of the glacier is 58.9 km, the area is 567.2 sq. km. The thickness of the ice in the lower parts of the tongue is 150 - 200 m. The Inylchek Glacier is located to the east of Lake Issyk-Kul on the highest and most inaccessible part of the entire Tien Shan mountains - the Khan-Tengri massif. This region is characterized by fairly powerful glaciation; there are many peaks higher than 6,000 m - the highest of which is Khan-Tengri (6,995 m) - and the northernmost seven-thousander on the globe - Pobeda Peak (7,439 m).
