Upper Dolpo is a remote, high-altitude region in the Dolpa District of western Nepal, bordered by the Tibetan Plateau. Known for its pristine Tibetan culture and arid, trans-Himalayan landscapes, it is one of the most secluded and physically demanding trekking destinations in the country. The region is a "living museum" of ancient Tibetan Buddhist and Bon (pre-Buddhist) traditions. Dolpo region is inhabited by the Dolpo-pa, who maintain a traditional agro-pastoral lifestyle and a centuries-old salt trade with Tibet.
